NDR (Non-Delivery Report)

A real-time logistics report generated by a courier when a delivery attempt fails, requiring immediate merchant action.

An NDR (Non-Delivery Report) is a real-time status update generated by a courier company when a delivery agent attempts to deliver a parcel to a customer but is unsuccessful. NDRs are incredibly common in India, particularly on Cash on Delivery orders. Courier systems categorize NDRs using specific reason codes, such as: 'Customer Unavailable', 'Address Untraceable / Incomplete Address', 'Customer Requested Future Delivery', 'Phone Unreachable', or 'Customer Refused / COD Cash Not Ready'. The moment an NDR is flagged, a critical 24 to 48-hour window opens. The courier will hold the package at the local delivery hub. The merchant must immediately contact the customer to verify their address or availability and submit a 're-attempt request' with updated instructions back to the courier. If no action is taken, or if three delivery attempts fail, the parcel is automatically marked as RTO (Return to Origin), resulting in logistics losses.
