A security measure where the courier executive must verify a customer-provided One-Time Password to successfully deliver a COD parcel.
OTP (One-Time Password) Delivery Verification is an advanced logistics security mechanism deployed by tier-1 courier companies in India to combat shipping fraud and reduce RTO (Return to Origin) rates. The process operates primarily during Cash on Delivery (COD) transactions. When the courier delivery executive arrives at the buyer's physical doorstep, the shipping aggregator's software automatically generates and fires a 4-to-6 digit numeric OTP via SMS and WhatsApp to the buyer's registered mobile number. The delivery executive is legally and systematically blocked from marking the package as 'Delivered' until the customer verbally provides the OTP, which the executive enters into their handheld terminal. This verification step prevents delivery executives from making fake delivery attempts (marking parcels as 'Customer Rejected' or 'Address Untraceable' without visiting the location) and protects merchants from fraudulent returns while ensuring COD collections are accurately audited.
