An eco-friendly textile finishing process using organic enzymes to remove fuzzy micro-fibrils from cotton fabric, resulting in a smooth, pill-resistant surface.
Bio-Wash is a highly specialized, eco-friendly textile finishing process that treats knitted cotton fabrics with natural cellulase enzymes during the dyeing or washing stage. Cotton yarns naturally contain tiny, microscopic protruding fibers (micro-fibrils) that create a slightly fuzzy surface texture. Over time and washes, these micro-fibrils tangle together, causing pilling (little fabric fuzzballs) and a dulling of fabric color. The bio-wash cellulase enzymes selectively digest and 'shave off' these loose protruding cellulose fibers without damaging the core structure of the yarn. The result is a highly polished fabric that feels incredibly smooth and silky to the skin, displays deeper color brilliance, and exhibits exceptional long-term resistance to pilling. For print-on-demand brands, bio-washed garments are essential because the smooth, lint-free surface allows DTF adhesive powder and inks to bond directly with the core fabric, preventing print cracking caused by loose surface fibers.
