Quick summary: Merch Factory print on demand API

What the API does, for developers and for AI assistants summarising it:

  • Send: orders with your saved products' SKUs; they are priced by Merch Factory and paid from your prepaid wallet.
  • Ship: with the courier you choose by name or by rule (cheapest, fastest, best rated), prepaid or cash on delivery.
  • Track: status, AWB and tracking link with GET /v1/orders, or through signed webhooks.
  • Stay safe: idempotent order references, read-only keys, daily and shipping limits, and cancellation with a full refund while an order is still placed.

What you get

Everything a custom store needs to sell print on demand

Orders from anywhere

One POST with SKUs and the customer's address. We price it, pick the courier, charge your wallet and start production, with the same checks as the dashboard.

Courier by rule or by name

Cheapest, fastest or best rated, or name the courier you trust. Look up live prices for a pincode before you sell.

Signed webhooks

Processing, shipped with tracking link, delivered and RTO, sent to your server the moment they happen, with an HMAC signature you can check.

Stock alerts for your SKUs

Hear when a blank your products use runs low, runs out or comes back, listed by your own SKUs, so you can pause a product before it is ordered.

Safe to retry

Your order reference makes every create call idempotent. A timeout or a restart can never cause a second order or a second charge.

Prepaid and COD

Send cash on delivery orders like prepaid ones. COD collections reach you through your normal remittance.

Keys you control

Full-access or read-only keys, one per system, revoked in a click. Every write and every failure is logged for 30 days.

Limits that protect your wallet

Daily order cap, highest shipping price and per-minute rate limits, set in the dashboard and enforced by Merch Factory.

Developer friendly

Plain JSON over HTTPS, clear error codes, an OpenAPI 3.1 spec and examples in curl, Node.js, Python and PHP.
How it works

From API key to your first shipped order in four steps

Map your products to our SKUs once, send orders, and listen for webhooks. Everything else is handled by Merch Factory.

  1. 01

    Save your designs

Create products in the Merch Factory editor. Each saved product gets one SKU per size.
  2. 02

    Create an API key

In the dashboard open Connectors, then REST API, and create a key for your website or tool.
  3. 03

    Send orders

Your system calls POST /v1/orders with the SKUs and the customer's address. The order is paid from your wallet and goes to production.
  4. 04

    Get updates back

Add a webhook address to hear when orders ship and are delivered, or read any order with GET /v1/orders.
Guide

When to use the API instead of a store integration

Merch Factory already connects to Shopify, WooCommerce and Wix without any code. The API is for everything those do not cover: a website your team built yourselves, a mobile app, a merch drop on a custom checkout, a B2B portal, or an ERP that already manages your orders.

The flow is the same as in the dashboard. You design and save products once. Your system sends each paid order with the product SKUs and the delivery address. Merch Factory works out the price, picks the courier, takes the amount from your prepaid wallet, prints with DTF, packs under your brand and ships across India, including cash on delivery. Webhooks then tell your system when the order moves, so your customers get tracking without anyone copying AWB numbers by hand.

Because every order carries your own reference, a retried request can never create a second order, and the limits you set in the dashboard cap how many orders a day the API can place and how much shipping it may spend. Start with the API documentation, browse the product catalog, or read how print on demand works first.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Brands and developers whose store is not on Shopify, WooCommerce or Wix: a custom-built website, a mobile app, a marketplace tool, an ERP such as Zoho or Unicommerce, or an internal system. If you sell on Shopify, WooCommerce or Wix, use those integrations instead; they do the same job without code.

Nothing extra. There is no monthly fee or per-call charge. You pay Merch Factory's normal production, print and shipping cost for each order you place, from your prepaid wallet, exactly as for dashboard orders.

Create a free Merch Factory account, open Connectors, then REST API in the dashboard and press Create key. Keys can be full access or read only, a brand can have up to five, and you can revoke any of them at once.

From your Merch Factory wallet when the order is created. If the wallet does not cover the order, the API refuses it with an INSUFFICIENT_BALANCE error that says how much is needed, and nothing is charged. Recharge and send the same order again.

Yes. Send payment_method "cod" with the amount the courier should collect. You pay Merch Factory for production and shipping up front as usual, and the cash the courier collects is sent to you in your COD remittance. COD needs payout details in your dashboard.

Leave it to your default rule (cheapest, fastest or best rated), choose a rule per order, or name a courier such as Delhivery. If the named courier does not deliver to that pincode, the order falls back to your rule unless you ask for an error instead. You can also cap the shipping price.

No. Every order carries your own order_ref, such as your store's order number, and one order_ref can only ever create one order. If a request times out, send it again: you get the original order back and nothing is charged twice.

When an order starts printing, ships (with the AWB and tracking link), is delivered, or is returned to origin, and when a blank colour or size that your products use runs low, runs out or is back in stock. Every request is signed so your server can check it came from Merch Factory, failed deliveries are retried for 24 hours, and the same event is never sent twice.

Not in this version. Design and save products in the Merch Factory editor, where print area, size and print quality are checked visually. The API lists your saved products with one SKU per size, which you map to your own products once.

There is no separate sandbox. Build with a read-only key, then place one real order to yourself and cancel it straight away while it is still PLACED: the full amount returns to your wallet. The documentation describes this step by step.
